Qi Gong

For thousands of years the Chinese people have been practicing and developing many esoteric calisthenics, meditation and breathing methods that over time have proved to be effective in improving health and longevity. These methods have come to be known as Qi Gong.

Qi (pronounced chee) is the body's intrinsic vital force. It permeates all living things. It is the body's electrical current which moves through invisible channels known as meridians. Qi Gong is the science of harnessing, cultivating and developing the Qi.

Blood, breath and energy are closely related and their harmonious flow reflects one's state of health and vitality. A Chinese saying is "Running water does not become putrid." This saying refers to the importance of keeping the body's vital energy, or Qi, balanced and flowing. Blockages or imbalances in this energy flow can result in slow metabolic activity, mood swings, lack of vitality, poor sleep and illness.

At our school we teach various Qi Gong exercises which when practiced regularly provide the following benefits:

  • Increased metabolic activity
  • Improved mental clarity
  • Deep breathing
  • Energy and vitality
  • Restful sleep
  • And many other benefits
Confucius said, "Do not enlighten those who are not eager to learn, nor advise those who are not anxious to give an explanation themselves. If I have presented one corner of the square and they cannot come back to me with the other three, I should not go over the points again."
